Save changes

Save item edits as a draft in Webflow
View as Markdown

After editing fields in the item detail sheet, click Save to persist your changes as a draft in Webflow without publishing them live.

Save an item

1

Edit fields

Open an item and change one or more field values. See Open and edit an item.

2

Click Save

In the item sheet sidebar panel, click Save. While saving, the button shows Saving….

3

Confirm success

After a successful save, the item status updates (typically Changes in Draft if the item was previously live). Changed-field highlights remain until you publish or reset fields.

Save vs. publish

ActionResult
SaveWrites changes to Webflow as a draft. Live site content is unchanged until you publish.
PublishMakes changes live on the site. See Publish an item.

Save frequently while editing long content to avoid losing work.

Unsaved changes guard

If you try to close the item sheet or navigate away with unsaved edits, Wicked CMS shows a dialog:

Discard unsaved changes?

  • Keep editing — return to the sheet with your changes intact
  • Discard changes — close without saving

Rate limiting

If Webflow’s API rate limit is reached, the Save button may show Retrying in Ns… and automatically retry after a short delay.

Save in create mode

When creating a new item, Save creates the item as a draft in Webflow. You can then publish it separately.

Bulk save

To save multiple items at once, use Update multiple items and choose Save as draft.

Next step

When your draft is ready, Publish an item to make changes live.
