Edit referenced items from item details

You can now open and edit a linked item directly from a Reference or Multi-reference field — without leaving the item you are working on.

What’s new?

  • Edit button (pencil) on Reference and Multi-reference fields — opens the linked item in the detail sheet
  • Referenced items open in a stacked view on top of the current item — your edits on the parent item are preserved
  • Back returns to the parent item; Back to items closes the sheet from the base item
  • Save, Publish, and other item actions work on referenced items
  • On Multi-reference fields, each linked row shows Live or Draft status with Edit and Remove controls

How to edit a referenced item

Open an item

Click OPEN on an item that has a Reference or Multi-reference field.

Click Edit on the reference

Next to the linked item, click Edit (pencil). In a Multi-reference field, click Edit on the row you want to change.

Edit and save

The referenced item opens in the detail sheet. Change fields as needed, then click Save or Publish.

Return to the parent item

Click Back to return to the item you started from.

You can open referenced items from referenced items — Wicked CMS stacks each one in order. An item that is already open in the stack cannot be opened again.
