# Open and edit an item

Click **OPEN** on any item row to open the **item detail sheet** — a panel on the right side of the workspace where you view and edit all fields for that CMS item.

![Item detail sheet](https://files.buildwithfern.com/wicked-cms.docs.buildwithfern.com/6b7fa434f92a8b80aab02d9bf1a12e49ffcae424e4013a1c4f68b67e3d2bbcd0/docs/assets/screenshots/item-sheet.png)

## Open an item

Browse the items table, or use [search](/search-items) and [filters](/filter-items) to locate the item.

Hover over the row (desktop) and click **OPEN**, or click the item name area.

The detail sheet opens with all collection fields. Change values as needed. See [Field types](/field-types).

## Item sheet layout

The detail sheet header includes:

* **Back to items** (chevron) — close the sheet and return to the table
* **Item name** and publish state indicator (**Live** or **Draft**)

The main area lists all fields from your collection schema with appropriate editors for each field type.

The sidebar panel (within the sheet) contains the primary actions:

* **Save** — save changes as draft. See [Save changes](/save-changes).
* **Publish** — publish the item live. See [Publish an item](/publish-an-item).
* **⋮** action menu (next to **Publish**) — duplicate, reload, queue, restore live, archive, delete, and [Open in Webflow](/open-in-webflow)

## Keep editing while navigating

The item sheet stays open when you:

* Switch [collections](/browse-collections) in the sidebar
* Switch [locales](/switch-between-locales) on multi-locale sites

Wicked CMS updates the sheet to reflect the item in the new context. If you switch **locales** with unsaved changes, Wicked CMS first prompts you to keep editing or [discard them](/save-changes).

## Changed fields

Fields that differ from the live (published) version are highlighted with a blue label. You can [reset individual fields](/reset-changed-field) to their live values.

## Close the sheet

Click **Back to items** or click outside the sheet. If you have unsaved changes, Wicked CMS prompts you to keep editing or discard changes.
